A warrant of arrest was issued for ODM Nairobi County Chairman George Aladwa after he failed to turn up for a mention of his incitement to violence case at a Nairobi criminal court.

Senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku issued the warrant after Aladwa failed to turn up in court and there was no representation either .

She directed that the warrant be executed by August 11 2017.

The mention of the case was earlier set for June 26 2017 which then became a public holiday thus pushing all mention to June 27 2017 of which Aladwa skipped.

“We posted a notice on our website for the deferred mentions, he has no excuse to absent himself from attendance,” the magistrate said while issuing the warrant.

In the case Aladwa is charged with uttering words that the prosecution deemed to mean that it was desirable to visit violence or even death to certain persons if the then CORD leader, now NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga did not win the 2017 elections.

People must die

The charge states that he incited a crowd during a rally in Nairobi’s volatile Kibera.

Alawda has fought off his prosecution in vain, lodging an appeal at the high court and objecting to his trial on grounds of defectiveness of a charge sheet.

The prosecution alleges that Aladwa said people must die for Raila to be president.

He has been enjoying a bond of Ksh 500,000.
