A political aspirant in Kisii County has been sentenced to a year in jail. KANU MCA candidate for Masige West Ward David Getui Bwana has been convicted in a corruption case involving procurement malpractices during his tenure in the Prisons service.

He was found guilty of procurement malpractices together with Procurement Officer John Ruto Suter while at Kenya Prisons.

David Getui, a former Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, was at the time the officer-in-charge at Nairobi Remand and Allocation Prison, NRAP, where deliveries were made without the issuance of a Local Purchasing Order (LPO) between October 2004 and August 2005.

Camera shy

In a trial in which the prosecution called 17 witnesses to the stand, Senior Principal Magistrate Felix Kombo found the two guilty of 5 charges of corruption , 7 others similar charges against them were dismissed for lack of evidence.

Camera shy Getui and Ruto are to serve a year in jail or cough a fine Ksh1.5million each.

They can, however, appeal the ruling within 14 days.
