What: Flashback! Narcotics and drug trafficking, publications linking John Harun Mwau, businessman and politician and former Mp for Kilome,PICK chairman to drug trafficking, sued the police… When: 2014 Who: IG and others Where: Embakasi and Malindi Why:Allegations baseless and untrue.

Mwau’s defence team has cross examined the lead investigator Peter Njeru relating to the Ksh6.3 billion cocaine seizure police bust on December 14 2004.

The top detective played a two-hour police documentary in court on the sensational find, the largest haul ever in the country.

Court heard that “the agency” was informed that suspects intended to burn down the evidence but nobody was found at the Embakasi location where the drugs were stashed, and in Malindi “occupants seemed to have left in a hurry.”

Njeru said they found drugs hidden under the deck of a boat found in the compound and in godown No. 20  in Embakasi.

The officer, on cross exam  swore he never received information on “Mwau link to drugs.”

Delegation came to Kenya

He said he was aware of investigations involving the Netherlands and that a delegation came to Kenya and “Mwau was not among those questioned.”

“None of the witnesses linked Mwau to drugs…therefore linking Hon, Mwau to drugs is a false allegation,” the witness said in cross exam.John Githongo and the then US ambassador to Kenya Michael Edward Ranneberger had sensationally claimed Mwau had special police protection.

The court had that Mwau “is not in-laws with governor Kabogo,” neither has relations with Akasha family.

Njeru said he could not confirm communication between Kenya and  US with regards to the Ranneberger report.

Hearing continues.
