Former KTN editor Aaron Ochieng is not yet out of the woods as we reported earlier.
The negotiations to have the matter settled out of court are not bearing fruits yet, a Nairobi court was told, promoting the trial magistrate to give him a last chance to settle the matter with his accuser anchor, Joy Doreen Biira.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko ruled that in case the matter is not settled out of court as promised then it goes to full hearing.
When the case came up for mention on September 5 2017 ,he told the trial court, through his lawyer ,that so far he has raised Ksh170,000 to settle the case with a balance of Ksh30,000 to go.
The lawyer presented a cheque in court to attest to the claims and requested that Ochieng be given one week to settle the balance.
Ochieng was updating the court on the progress of the “out of court negotiations” after he admitted having dragged the young anchor name into the muck.
See earlier post below:
Ochieng has since publicly admitted dragging Biira’s name into the scam.
“The statement that I made was false in regard to the motor vehicle KBY 831K, I wish to state to court and Ms Biira that I lied… I regret the amount of damage that my actions have had on Ms Biira and her family, I do regret my actions and I want to publicly apologize to Ms Biira and this court …I wish to confirm to discuss with Ms Biira the possibility of solving this matter out of court,” he had read from a signed statement.
Ochieng had in January 2017 denied two counts of stealing and handling stolen property. He was charged with stealing a motor vehicle belonging to KTN news anchor Joy Doreen Biira. He has been out on bond Kshs 500,000.
The next mention is on September 12 2017 at the Milimani law courts.
