A Nairobi court yesterday gave a city lawyer two weeks to re-pay back KSh16 million she is accused of stealing .
When the case came up for mention before Milimani trial magistrate Peter Ooko, the court was informed that the lawyer, Janet Njanja Maina, is still engaged in negotiation with the complainant to settle the matter out of court.The court heard that the accused has already paid Sh 1.7 million and that she needed more time to clear the remaining amount.
However, the prosecution said it was not aware that the complainant has been receiving such money from the suspect.
Right bank account
The prosecution asked the court to order the case to be mentioned in two weeks for complainant to confirm whether such money has been deposited to the right bank account.
The charges against the lawyer states that on diverse dates between
March 4 and 5, 2015 in Nairobi county Janet Njanja being an agent to Ogeto Stephen Jeremiah stole KSh16 million the property of Ogeto which had been entrusted to her to deliver to one Nishma Nisshit Shah in respect of sale of land LR No. 209/1429/2.
She is also charged with issuing a bad cheque for KSh980,000 in favour of Fastem supplies payable to the account at Co-operative Bank, Aga Khan walk branch.
According to the other four counts, the accused is said to have also
issued bad cheques for Sh 850,000, KSh384,000, KSh880,000 and KSh930,000.
