Archbishop Gilbert Deya’s wife was also once arrested at the same facility with a stolen baby.
A trial court has directed Kemunto be detained at Kilimani Police station for 5 days to enable investigations and recording of witness statements to be completed.
Kemunto was arrested in Kongo area in Kawangware, Nairobi county, with a stolen child aged three weeks who has since been reunited with the parents.
A magistrate concurred that the nature of the offence required more time for the Child Protection Unit officers involved in the case to complete investigations.
Police believe more suspects are likely to be arrested as co-perpetrators in the sleazy syndicate.
Kemunto maybe convicted on her own plea of guilty, lets keep watching…police are equally not taking chances and want more time for DNA profiling.
In court she begged for forgiveness when asked if she had any objection against her denial of bail.
Maybe she may need counsel…
But she said something like, ” ni mara yangu ya kwanza, nilikuwa nataka kumrudhisha mtoto kwa wazazi wake.” There are also confessions she’s made in media interviews…
She will be taken to court on February 26 2018 for further directions.” I have considered the application for the continued holding in remand of the respondent for investigations to be completed,” said Principal Magistrate, Kennedy Cheruiyot ,at Milimani law courts.
He said police have alluded to a wide-spread child stealing syndicate outside Nairobi and must be given time to pursue further investigations.
