SEVERINE Mwendwa Ntoiti has been charged in criminal court with conning police officers by falsely pretending that she was in position to “assist influence” the outcome of their vetting.
The charge states that on May 12 2018 at an unknown place but within Kenya, with intent to defraud, obtained from one police officer, Bernard Itere cash, Ksh100k through M-Pesa by falsely pretending that “you were in a position to assist the said Itere get a favourable vetting outcome from the National Police Service Commission.”
She faced a second charge of attempting to obtain a similar amount of money from a second target, but missed!
The charge read out in court stated that on may 15 2018 she attempted to obtain from Douglas Matoke Ksh100,000 by pretending to be in a position to assist him get a favourable vetting decision from the commission.
Mwendwa, police say, pretended to be handling vetting cases from the Coast region.
Three prosecution witnesses are listed for the hearing on July 4 2018 at the City Court.
The suspect has been released on a bond of Ksh200,000 or a cash bail of Ksh100,000.
A mention of the case was set for June 11 2018.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has been directed to furnish the offender with all copies of material it will be using in the case.
